Proving that, of international movies, comedies can travel, especially if French or Argentine, FilmSharks Intl. has announced a first brace of sales on “El fútbol o yo” (My Love or My Passion), the latest hit from Disney’s co-owned Buenos Aires-based production house Patagonik Film Group and star Adrián Suar, arguably the most reliable tandem in the Latin American film industry.

Directed by Marcos Carnevale (“Elsa and Fred,” “Inseparables”), “My Love or My Passion” has closed France (Koba Films), Spain (Festival Films) and China (Royal Seal). Greece (Tanweer), Central America (Weisner), and Chile, Peru and Colombia (Cinecolor).

Starring Suar as a soccer fanatic who attempts rehab, having lost his wife and job and distanced his daughters, “My Love or Passion” is already being distributed by Buena Vista in Latin America. It bowed in Argentina mid-August to become the second-highest grossing national movie of 2017, selling 1.1 million tickets ($6 million). As expectation builds for next year’s soccer World Cup, so might sales for a film that suggests obvious complementary programming potential.

Talks with a “major label” in the U.S. are “very advanced,” said FilmSharks founder Guido Rud. Italy, Germany, the U.K., Australia and South Korea are in discussion, he added.
